PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
