Area Police
Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior political figure stated the attack made him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
